Growth area
The future of the planning system in England, published by the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee in June 2021, suggests that: 'Growth areas are places “suitable for substantial development”, including “land suitable for comprehensive development, including new settlements and urban extension sites, and areas for redevelopment, such as former industrial sites or urban regeneration sites … [and possibly] sites such as those around universities where there may be opportunities to create a cluster of growth-focused businesses.” Proposals in these areas “would automatically be granted outline planning permission for the principle of development … Further details would be agreed and full permission achieved through streamlined and faster consent routes which focus on securing good design and addressing site-specific technical issues.” The Government also stated that detailed planning decisions would be delegated to planning officers'
